The year 2011 was a momentous year for George Fleming House (formerly SACS House) as we celebrated our Centenary Year. 100 years of service to the community gave us the chance to reflect on the past and allow us to plan for the future.
Our Centenary Celebrations commenced with a formal evening on Friday 27th May 2011, followed by an Open Day on Saturday 28th May 2011. Management and residents were on hand to provide information to prospective residents, donors and friends of George Fleming House. We were also extremely pleased to welcome ex-residents.
The future of George Fleming House will be challenging as we continue with our mandate of providing affordable accommodation for young ladies. As a Non-Profit and registered Welfare Organisation, we do rely on donor support for maintenance and improvements. The past 10 years have been extremely difficult. Regrettably, we have not been in a position to carry out essential maintenance which is desperately needed. We welcome the support of donors and appeal to the community at large to assist in any way possible. George Fleming House desperately requires painting throughout and, in addition, requires replacement of aged plumbing, electrical circuits and fittings.
George Fleming House is particularly indebted to The Beit Trust and The Wakefield Trust for their most generous support over many years. Their unwavering committment has been instrumental in helping to keep our facility functioning during some tough times.
