Having read an article on the Centenary I went through the website with much interest. We can only admire the people that set up this organisation in a time where it was probably not so straight forward. We also need to admire those that have continued this wonderful initiative in sometimes rough times (to say the least) as well as those that are supporting GFH until today and will continue to do so in future.

Congratulations to all those that have contributed over the past 100 years and keep up the good work!

Hello, well im very interested in this as my mother Anne French was in George Fleming, many years ago and i was also interested in anyone out there that might of known her. She has sadly passed away 5 years ago, and i would like to do an autobiography on her. Any contacts would be greatly appreciated.

Well done to keep the place going. This sort of dedication by the Board is exactly what those of us responsible citizens cherish and emulate. Please keep the spirit and entrust the heritage to those of a similar ilk for posterity.

Hi Trish,
My only claim to fame is that I was the first male to live at George Fleming!! My mom ran the place for a while in the late 70`s. I have great memories of the place and many of the girls who lived there are still friends!! When I joined the Police in `77 I was a very popular man in Depot! I hope all your celebrations go off well and trust the next 100 years are as successful as the last. Take care

Hi,
It was so interesting to read your mail as SACS house has long been referred to & talked about in our house as both my mother, Paddy Rademan nee McIlraith, her sister Pam Cutter nee McIlraith & various other sisters all lived in SACS house with names I remember as Sally Pooles and others. The years were 1940's. I have a very similar photo as the one on your site. Those were such good days said my mother & co. Hockey matches, work & the end of the war!!
Long may SACS house be there for the woman as a safe & secure enviroment. Well done to you all.
Regards

SACS House

Hi was very interested to hear news of SACS House, I often wondered if it still existed.I lived there for 3 years from 1964 to end of 1966. We lived in Kadoma & when I finished school got a job in Barclays Bank & they had a vacancy in Salisbury & I managed to find accommodation at SACS much to my parents relief as they thought if was very secure & safe place for a young girl to live! I was able to afford the board (out of my 25pound a month salary) which was I think 18pounds 10 shillings & that was 3 meals a day (if you couldn't get back for lunch you got sandwiches, & I worked at the Manica Rd branch and as I walked to work I couldn't get back in our hour long lunch break). I shared a room & I liked it there, there was always company. While I was there the name changed to George Fleming. I always remember the wet washing drip drying in the 'laundry' which consisted only of big washing sinks & clothes lines, no washing machines or tumble dryers in those days!I got married in 1967 & moved to Bulawayo where I lived until 1998. I now live in the UK.
Regards

Hello Trish, I was a resident at George Fleming House for a short while in 1975/6 and was delighted to see that it is still open.

As it happens I am now employed at Spes Bona Girl Students' Residence in Cape Town. Last year we also celebrated our Centenary and it was rather a special affair! I find it so interesting that George Fleming has so much in common with Spes Bona. Our Lady Warden is also a Zimbabwean - she comes from Bulawayo and her name is Judy Bresler. The majority of our girls come from Zimbabwe.
I would love to hear from you.
With kind regards

May you please include photos of the Old wing as well as the placard that details the History of George Fleming as well as the Flemings photos. It will paint a better picture of the History of the House. If you can also add the Laundry room as well as Ms McKenzie's office. This is a lovely website. Well Managed and informative. Well done.
